This weekend, explore the worlds of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math with the Green Teens and some special guests. We will be exploring a range of STEM topics, including the science behind beauty, native plants, sustainable energy, protecting the environment, the upcoming solar eclipse, DNA, and more!

Saturday we welcome special guests from National Grid, The Estée Lauder Companies, and ReWild Long Island joining our Green Teens for the following activities:

  • Plant a pot with native seeds to bring home to germinate and watch them grow. Learn why native seeds need special treatment to germinate.
  • Spot the difference: Native vs. Non-Native. Explore the differences between native and non-native plants as you learn to identify our local flora.
  • Make your own pinhole solar eclipse viewer to see the shadow created by the upcoming solar eclipse.
  • Learn about our genetic code as you make your own model of DNA to take home.
  • Right here on Long Island, The Estée Lauder Companies combines art and science to create, make, and test prestige beauty products and packages. Meet the scientists, engineers and product developers behind some of the world’s most well-known and loved makeup, hair care, skin care and fragrance products.

Sunday we welcome special guests from The Estée Lauder Companies and Balloon Mission joining our Green Teens for the following activities:

  •  It’s fun and easy to do our part to prevent troublemaker balloons from flying in the sky! Meet our stuffed animal friends, "Honu the Sea Turtle," and "Seymour the Seagull" and learn how they became tangled up in balloon ribbon. Learn about Balloon Mission's Pop-n-Drop balloon collection bins, then design and draw on the surface of canvas tote bags using fabric or dot markers—creating original artwork you'll be proud to carry as an Eco-Hero!
